Believe it or not, you can make a real difference in the world for less than the daily cost of a cup of coffee. Here's the power of a dollar: Back in 1958, one man asked everyone in his town to give just one dollar to create a college fund for local students.

The result?
The establishment of Scholarship America, which has awarded over $2 billion in scholarships to nearly 2 million students nationwide!

 
 

Today, Dollars for Scholars, a program of Scholarship America, is providing opportunities for everyone to help deserving students realize their educational dreams through A Dollar a Day in May.

What happens when people have more education?

  • Crime rates go down and tax revenues increase

  • Fewer people depend on welfare or government subsidies

  • Unemployment falls and workplace flexibility rises

There are more than 1,200 Dollars for Scholars community-based, volunteer-led chapters nationwide.
More than 500 Collegiate Partner colleges and universities across the country have pledged to maximize the benefits of Dollars for Scholars' scholarships. Many of those schools will match all or part of our scholarships.
