About Us

Dollars for Scholars is a national network of more than 1,200 grassroots scholarship foundations in 40 states and the District of Columbia that raise funds and provide financial and academic support to local students. Our parent organization, Scholarship America, is the nation's largest private-sector scholarship and educational support organization.

The Dollars for Scholars program mobilizes and unites local citizens and encourages local students to reach for and achieve their education goals.

• In 2009, Dollars for Scholars chapters raised nearly $70 million, awarded more than $42 million in scholarships to students, and invested the remainder primarily in endowment funds for future scholarships.
  
  
• More than 500 Collegiate Partners – postsecondary educational institutions – have pledged to maximize the benefits of Dollars for Scholars' scholarships. Almost one-third of these schools match all or part of the awards.

Recent studies have shown that college graduates contribute to their communities by leading productive professional lives, while also contributing to society through greater levels of civic engagement, increased volunteerism and a stronger appreciation for diversity. In other words, a college education broadens the horizons and creates well-rounded members of our communities. Dollars for Scholars regions are working with communities to inspire students to achieve their highest educational and career potential. Our mission is to provide leadership to develop and support a network of community-based scholarship programs that are self-sustaining and perpetual.
